Building on the Momentum of the Last Four Years

It has been such an incredible honour and privilege to serve as Kingston’s Mayor over these last four years. I am proud of what we’ve accomplished, and I am excited by the momentum that we’ve created. Attracting new international businesses like Feihe and Frulact, securing funding for the Third Crossing, opening Kingston Penitentiary for tours and achieving the nation’s highest growth in transit ridership are just a few of the highlights from these past few years. There is a new vibrancy and excitement in the community. Most importantly, we have created a new spirit of collaboration between the City, educational institutions, our military base, our health care sector, and a myriad of community organizations who are all working together to make Kingston a leading 21st century city.

So why am I running for re-election? Because I see the potential to build on the momentum we have created. Every success we have achieved over these last four years has positioned us to do even more. Our new international businesses have opened new doors to put Kingston on the global map. The Third Crossing has created the conditions for an exciting revitalization of the Rideau Heights neighbourhood and new waterfront trails and green space along the Cataraqui River. The success of the Kingston Pen tours has positioned us to attract visitors and tourists from around the world. Our investments in transit are creating a greener community and new opportunities to create a vibrant, walkable city.

I believe strongly that building our community takes teamwork and collaboration, and it also requires a champion, someone who can unite individuals, organizations and businesses to a common cause. I am proud to have played this role for the last few years, building collaboration, partnerships and teamwork both at City Council and across the community. Our city is moving forward in the right direction, and my vision is to build on our progress, and to accelerate our growth.

Over the summer I am looking forward to sharing with you a whole new set of ideas, plans and priorities to build on our momentum. I am also looking forward to hearing from you about your hopes and ideas, so that we can build our community…together.
