I believe some of the best qualities in a leader come down to one's willingness to never stop learning, never stop growing and never shy away from change when it's change for the better. In fact, I believe that if you want to be a success in any area of your life, you can’t be afraid of new opinions, ideas and perspectives. I know for a fact that listening to people - truly listening - has made me a stronger, more compassionate and ultimately, a more grounded and well-rounded person. As a result, I’ve also grown into a more confident leader.
Leadership – good leadership – is also about finding balance in subtleties; being confident without being cocky, being resilient without being needlessly stubborn, being optimistic without being foolish, being adaptable without being flimsy. It’s about surrounding yourself with the right people, not necessarily like-minded people. After all, truly understanding the world around you depends on understanding the perspectives of as many of the people in it as possible.
I’ve built my platform on these core qualities of leadership, and judging from the responses I’ve been getting from the Kingston community after knocking on well-over 10,000 doors, I’d say my real life, realistic approach is appealing to real people.
