Bryan Paterson’s team asked me to explain why I’m voting for him knowing that he is an evangelical Christian and was a youth pastor in his church. In theory, it doesn’t matter to me what a person’s faith is when they’re running at the municipal level, but this week, I met Paterson – for the first time – seeking to double-check my sense that, as he says, he is able and willing to separate church and state. As a result, I’m content in my decision to vote Bryan Paterson for mayor. It’s my judgment that he’s a sincere and intelligent guy who understands the difference between politics and religion and their roles, and that his faith speaks to moral fibre. If this is the only issue that has made you hesitate about voting for Paterson, I’d say: Go ahead; give him your support.
I believe in Bryan Paterson. I have observed him interacting with people – he listens, he thinks, and he exchanges ideas. He has a record of analyzing both sides of issues and using evidence to make informed decisions. Bryan is exactly the respectful team builder that Council needs. Without reservation, he is my choice for Mayor.
Bryan Paterson is the mayor that Kingston needs. During Bryan’s extensive amount of experience on city council, he has proved time and time again to have the city’s best interests at the forefront of his agenda. As members of both the Kingston business community and the arts community, former students of the Limestone District School Board and currently studying at Queen’s University, we are entirely confident that Bryan will institute much needed growth and development in this city. We ask you to help us support his vision for Kingston.
Bryan is a well respected member of our city council. He understands the importance of consensus building and he will bring sound leadership to our community. Bryan is the right candidate at the right time for our community.
My paths have crossed with Bryan’s over the years in our various pursuits to enhance the lives of the residents of the City of Kingston. Bryan is a thoughtful individual who considers all aspects of his actions and what impact they will have on his fellow citizens. With Bryan at the helm I believe this city will not only experience growth but also lead to an increased sense of community amongst its residents.
When you meet Bryan, you’re immediately drawn to his ability to connect with people. He listens to and he respects the opinions of others and through that interaction, he uses it as helpful information to assist him in making responsible and informed decisions. I’ve seen him do this with students, seniors and colleagues at City Hall. In return, when Bryan speaks; people listen. His intelligence, professionalism and love for his community is readily apparent. I’ve watched Bryan’s steady assent as a true leader in our great city over the last several years, even before his term at City Hall. His work in the community and in the classroom have impacted many people and his work as a City Councillor and Mayor continues that important trend. I’m delighted that Bryan has taken this bold step forward and I know that he can become the right Mayor to lead Kingston through the next stage of our future.
I admire Bryan Paterson’s competent, evenhanded approach and respectful demeanour. He is committed to improving the lives of Kingstonians, while still being mindful of today’s enormous economic, environmental and social challenges. As Mayor, he will move Kingston forward with consideration of and respect for the aims, interests and needs of all of the people who make up this great city.
I’ve worked with many councillors over the last 20 years of my political career and I have to give kudos to Bryan. He’s done a tremendous job since he’s been with us over the last four years and I couldn’t imagine a better person for the job at this point in time. I believe Bryan represents a lot of things the community as a whole has a strong interest in. Any decision he makes is for the benefit of the city and not just his own personal views
