Design Our City For People

  • Invest in the waterfront with new deep water dock, breakwater walkway, and expanded green space & trails
    Deep water dock now in place west of Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, while construction to begin on breakwater pathway next year

  • Champion community-wide efforts to help at-risk youth succeed and thrive
    New youth services hub established at the former Princess St United Church, including commitment of city funding for supportive housing for at-risk youth

  • Revitalize the Inner Harbour and Old Industrial Area
    Approved tax deferral program to allow for soil cleanup on the former Davis Tannery property, while federal government has also committed to clean up of in-water contamination in the Inner Harbour

  • Adopt new design standards to ensure vibrant streetscapes and quality buildings
    Advanced Density by Design guidelines, and construction now underway on several new state of the art residential developments in the city core


Seize Global Opportunities

  • Support our world class innovation and entrepreneurship
    Adopted new economic development strategy in partnership with Queen’s and St. Lawrence College to develop commercialization hubs for sustainable manufacturing and health care innovation

  • Negotiate a better network of air and rail links to Kingston
    New Pascan air service to begin this fall, with connections through Montreal to Air Canada network, while Via Rail moving forward with plan to establish Kingston as a hub for new high frequency rail service

  • Make new technologies more accessible through expanded broadband and public Wi-Fi
    Adopted new city broadband strategy, and new investments coming in broadband for rural residents


Embrace A Policy Of Growth

  • Facilitate growth in housing so everyone can find an affordable place to live
    Doubled the rate of growth in the City’s housing supply over the last four years, with a record investment in new affordable housing units

  • Use the proceeds from growth to cap future tax increases at or below rate of inflation while sustaining services
    Kept property tax increases at or below inflation every year. In 2022 Kingston had one of the lowest property tax increases of any city in Ontario

  • Foster growth in employment opportunities and better access to jobs
    Expansion of Frulact, Li-Cycle and other local companies. Build out of City business parks continues as a number of new businesses have located in Kingston
